The Peshawar-Karachi Motorway, envisaged the construction of a 6-Lane access-controlled motorway having a total length of 1,100 KM. The proposed motorway shall be a tolled facility. It shall originate from Karachi through motorway M-9 (136 KM) up to Hyderabad. From Hyderabad onwards, the proposed alignment shall follow a virgin alignment for 345 KM up to Sukkur. The Sukkur Multan section, with estimated cost of worth $ 2,889 million, 392 KM essentially follows the Left Bank of River Indus. The section is undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation while the Ministry of Communications and National Highway Authority in Pakistan remained responsible for supervision and implementation process.

The framework agreement of Sukkur-Multan Section was signed between two governments on April 20, 2015 while the ground breaking of the project held at Sukkur on May 6, 2016. The commencement officially started on August 5, 2016. The project completed and inaugurated on November 5, 2019. The project has provided employment to total 25620 locals.
