In April 2018, the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) of Pakistan and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce
(MOFCOM) signed a letter of engagement for the construction of Pak-China friendship hospital in
Gwadar, Balochistan. Groundbreaking of hospital held in 2019 while civil work started in 2020. The Pak-
China friendship hospital under CPEC aims to bring advanced medical facilities for local residents in
Gwadar port city. The hospital, being built at estimated cost of $ 100 million, is financed through
Chinese government grant. The hospital, to be built on 68 acres of land, will be comprised of 6 medical
blocks. About 20% of the residential blocks are completed. The hospital is expected to be completed in
December 2022.
