In March 2017, the Chinese government agreed to provide RMB 300 million in grant funding for the construction of the 8th Bangladesh-China friendship bridge. The 1400 meters long bridge will be built on the Kocha river in Southern Bangladesh. It will accelerate the movement of people and goods between the Barisal and Khulna divisions. The construction work began in November 2018, and the main engineering work was completed in December 2021. The bridge is expected to be completed in June 2022.
