Water Supply & Sewerage Authority (WASA) and Hydro China cooperation, in November 2014, agreed to build Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant in Bangladesh. The construction of the project, funded by the Export-Import Bank of China, started in August 2018. It includes sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and a sewage pipe network with a sewage treatment capacity of 500,000 cubic meters of sewage a day. The plant started trial operation in December 2021, is expected to be completed soon. The estimated treatment capacity of the plant during the dry season is about 350,000 m3/day which can cater for the demands of 4 million locals in Dhaka.
